Maikiko’s work and organizing experience has centered art and social impact, feminist media, community organizing, youth leadership, immigration justice, and storytelling. She currently serves on the National Political Committee of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), and other DSA national bodies including the Abolition Working Group and the Growth and Development Committee. She is a member of the Los Angeles chapter, where she has previously served on its Steering and Membership Committees, and the national AfroSocialists and Socialists of Color Caucus. She daylights as Director of Programs at WIF LA, working toward equitable gender representation and hiring in the entertainment industry. Prior to that, she worked in film-based impact producing, using documentary campaigns to move policy and legislative change. In 2021, she was nominated by Dr. Barbara Ransby to join the inaugural cohort of Margaret Burroughs Community Fellows in the Portal Project, a collaborative think tank of scholars, artists and activists to address urgent questions of racial and social justice. Maikiko lives in Los Angeles, was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, and is a proud daughter of anti-capitalist advocates and popular educators (all of whom are now DSA Members).
